Mark Sanford 2012?

According to The Associated Press, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was elected the new Chair of the Republican Governors Association. Haley Barbour, who once stated a favorable comment about the RLC, was elected Vice-Chair. Sanford, 48, is a former member of Congress and will be term limited in 2011.

A new website, Draft Sanford 2012, has been created in to enlist supporters for a prospective Mark Sanford bid for President. The site features interesting links, such as “10 Things You Didn’t Know About Mark Sanford.” Among the things I didn’t know are that Sanford rejected the Congressional housing allowance in favor of sleeping in his DC office and kept his term limits pledge.

Like another prospective 2012 libertarian favorite, Sanford enjoys running. The other runner, of course, is former New Mexico Governor and RLC Adviser Gary Johnson, who may run in 2012 for President as either a Libertarian or a Republican.

    As much as Bush and McCain have been a disaster for this party from both a philosophical and strategic standpoint, the one silver lining in all of this is the fact that the future of the GOP is now completely wide open for new leadership. Although it is unlikely that no Republican would probably beat Obama in 2012, Sanford would be an excellent candidate. He’s nothing flashy, but rather, a principled articulate representative of what we as Republicans should stand for. That’s what Republicans need right now. Instead of cheap gimmicks that are narrowly focused on the next election, we need to first worry about restoring the brand name and trust with the American people.

    GW Bush was nominated primarily because his dad was president. Bobby Jindhal could be nominated primarily because he’s a minority. This type of gimmick crap needs to take a seat to a legitimate and transparent nomination process in 2012 for the best representative of our party.

    As for Palin, she ain’t ready for primetime. Liberal media aside, anyone running for Vice President who thinks Africa is a country should go back to the minor leagues.

    I’m all for Mark Sanford in 2012, along with a whole host of other potential candidates, including Sarah Palin. However, lets dispense with the inacurate, if not out-right bogus, negative ascertations on Palin’s intellect, e.g. “she thought Africa was a country”. She’s an elected governor and deserves at the very least, a modicum of respect for what she’s accomplished on her own. Which is more than I can say for most nationally reknown politicians these days.

    Mark Sanford is the best man for the job. He is a no none sense man. He reminds me of Ronald Reagan. If there is anyone who can win! It is Mark Sanford.
