The Florida RLC is doing its part to rebuild the party. According to former national RLC Vice-Chair Philip Blumel, “The RLC is doing its part to rebuild the party. In 2008, RLCers built up its network, labored in the primaries, registered new Republicans, lobbied the legislature, endorsed candidates, participated in educational forums, provided speakers for GOP clubs, worked on general campaigns and added its members to Republican Executive Committees around the state.”

Economists from across the political spectrum agree that the government needs to act, as soon as possible, to prevent a much deeper economic downturn that could lead to double digit unemployment, and everyone agrees we need a really big stimulus package. President Elect Obama is doing his part, and has proposed an “American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan” that not only creates jobs in the short-term but spurs economic growth and competitiveness in the long-term.
The Republicans seem bent on throwing a monkey wrench into the process and delaying the passage of a stimulus package. What part of “really big” or “as soon as possible” don’t they understand? How can you oppose something you have not read yet? This shows everyone that the Republicans are still sore about losing the election and care more about opposing anything the Democrats do, then helping the country. The Republicans site facial responsibility, and accountability as their reason for opposition to a stimulus package; however they are the facially irresponsible ones that got us into a trillion dollar deficit in the last 8 years. They want accountability yet they don’t give any accountability for themselves (See: Hurricane Katrina; IRAQ war; Guantanamo Bay; Sen. Ted Stevens; etc). So I don’t trust the Republicans to oversee anything anymore, but I do trust President Elect Obama when he said “We must demand vigorous oversight and strict accountability for achieving results. And we must restore fiscal responsibility and make the tough choices so that as the economy recovers, the deficit starts to come down”. So there should be no reason for Republican opposition to Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan, Obama has it covered.
I applaud the Republicans for publicly wanting to stop pork barrel spending, but they spent the last 8 years in back rooms taking kickbacks, and making deals for home remolding, and new porches. I believe the only reason the Republicans want to “oversee” Obama’s plan is so they can “see” what they can get out of it for themselves.
The Republicans claim they stand for smaller, less intrusive government, yet in the last 8 years they have grown the government by 50%; engage in warrant less wiretapping; and submit American to ineffective, intrusive searches at airports.
The Republicans claim that they are for a free market economy, but they keep interfering with the free market by propping up a house of cards (i.e. their rich friends, big business, etc.) that should have fallen a long time ago. If they would have let the free market take care of weak businesses years ago the economy would have gone through a small recession and recovered. A recession is a normal part of the business cycle. If you keep putting off a recession then you only make things worse when it eventually hits, as is event today.
The Republicans claim they are socially conservative, yet they slander their opponents; indulge in torture; and the have an attitude of lie, cheat, steal, divide and conquer, in other words “do anything” to win an election. I am glad to see that the American people didn’t fall for their tactics in this election.
The Republican Party has lost their way within the last 8 years. They have gone against all their beliefs. The Republican Party has morphed from fiscally, and social conservatism into a hypocrite party of exclusionist, racist, and religious extremist, that engages in divisionism. They think that their conservative values should apply to everyone except themselves.
The Republicans had their chance, and the American people voted them out of office, two years in a row. Its time for them to stop opposing the Democrats for the sake of opposing or because they are sore losers, and its time to do what’s right for the country by helping President Elect Obama clean up their mess and turn things around.

Phillip,
The government cannot create jobs. They can only move them around. We can visibly see the new jobs they create. It is much harder to see the lost jobs, but they are there through higher prices and more regulation.
They only way for government to create 500,000 new jobs is to start with 1,000,000.
More Socialism will not fix our problems. Bush’s bailouts are Socialism, plain and simple. If the proposed policies are wrong, Republicans will be right to oppose them. Obama was elected because he was not the Republican candidate. Not because people wanted more government.
In liberty,
Steve

Phillip,
“Everyone” does NOT agree we need a big stimulus package of new spending. I most emphatically do not. One reason I did not vote for McCain is that he favored Bush’s bailouts and stimulus that Obama promises to continue and even expand.
