It’s been a long and exhausting primary season for the GOP this election cycle, and things are finally winding down as we head toward the Republican Convention in Tampa next month. Some in the liberty movement, aren’t planning to rally behind the presumptive nominee, and some are even hoping to pull off an upset, to nominate Ron Paul on the floor of the convention.
The Truth to the matter is as simple as this: Mitt Romney will be the Republican Nominee for President of the United States.
But, never fear kids, it’s not the end of the world. If we gain a majority in the Senate, I have little doubt that we can get a lot of good, pro-liberty legislation passed under Romney. Romney will approve the Keystone Pipeline, repeal the Affordable Care Act, and bring more fiscal responsibility to our budget. If we can get a good number of Liberty Republicans in office, we may even have some leverage with foreign policy issues as well. None of this will happen if we re-elect Barack Obama.
If we present ourselves as reasonable and supportive of the party during the Republican National Convention in August, we’ll have a lot of pull on deciding Romney’s running mate, which could be a make or break for Romney come November. There’s been much speculation on Mitt Romney and Ron Paul’s relationship. They supposedly are on very friendly terms, and from what I understand their wives have become very fond of each other as well. And surely Rand Paul’s endorsement of Romney didn’t hurt anything either. Romney realizes that his base has an enthusiasm gap, and he realizes that he’s going to need the Liberty Republicans to support him in November, if he’s going to win the Presidency. With that said, there’s a very good possibility that Rand Paul could be his choice for VP, as well as possibly even his father receiving the VP nomination, or possibly a cabinet position.
Imagine Rand Paul getting the Vice-Presidential nomination, and Ron Paul getting a Cabinet Post of Treasury Secretary. A lot of that will depend on how we act in the weeks leading up to the convention.
Of course, I can already hear some of you screaming at your keyboards: “What about Gary Johnson?”
To be clear, I admire Gary Johnson. I wish Republicans were in such a place to where he could have been nominated by the Republican Party. Unfortunately, most Republicans weren’t ready for some of his ideas, such as being pro-choice, and his advocacy for the legalization of Marijuana. So, in result he switched parties, and he went on to win the nomination from the Libertarian Party instead. As much as I hate to say it, and as much as I think Johnson would be a better President that Romney, he really has no chance of winning. If he can get into the debates, that may cause me to sing a different tune. However, we all know that’s not going to happen.
Romney, may not be the candidate that we brag about, and he is arguably the worst candidate the GOP could have elected; but he’s what we have. Also, he’s far better on liberty issues than the unacceptable alternative offered by the other major party. I ask for libertarians and Republicans to join me in supporting Mitt Romney for President 2012!

The problem with Mitt Romney is that he cheats, will not accomplish anything in Office, and stinks compared to Ron Paul. I just don’t trust Romney, if I could then I would vote for him. I am tired of politicians making false promises.

Excellent article. Spot-on.

I’ve been exploring for a little bit for any high quality articles or weblog posts on this sort of house . Exploring in Yahoo I ultimately stumbled upon this web site. Reading this info So i’m glad to express that I’ve a very good uncanny feeling I came upon just what I needed. I most no doubt will make certain to don?t disregard this web site and provides it a look regularly.

In my view, if either Rand or Ron Paul were given any role in a Romney administration, it would be ceremonial at best. I think the probability of Rand being the VP nominee is close to zero. But, if it happens, that new information.
We must stop voting for the lesser of two evils. We need a real option to the Republicrats. If Gary Johnson receives 5% or more of the popular vote in November, the Libertarian Party will receive $93 million in federal election funds for 2016.

I will never compromise my principles and vote for ormney. the gop has done everything under the sun to cheat Ron Paul in every state and even had some of us arrested, they have called Ron Paul supporters all kinds of names and now want our support, well you may be able to force oromney on us but you can’t force us to vote for him, I’ll wait till the convention then make up my mind but it will be between Ron Paul and Gary Johnson that much is for certain.

Good, thought provoking article… I too will wait until Tampa is done. Ron Paul as VP? Sec of Treasury? I’ll take it. We need Rand to stay in Senate, he’s doing a great job there. The ball is in Romneys court,, and a major cabinet position or two would make me think long and hard about a vote for him. But let me be clear.. I’m not voting for Romney, I’m voting for what he has done to advance the liberty movement through meaningful appointments.

You are right. Johnson has no chance because ‘respected’ media companies like CNN are not even including him on their polling. A third party candidate needs 15% to be invited onto the debates. A cosy little arrangement by the establishment if ever I saw one.
Incidentally it was CNN who refused to invite Governor Johnson onto the televised Primary debates despite the fact he was at that time polling similar numbers to Senator Santorum.
Reince Preibus and the GOP did nothing to ensure that all candidates were treated fairly. In fact it was left to Newt Gingrich to ask why Governor Johnson was not featuring on the debates.
From that moment on – whilst I support libertarian leaning Republicans I have not renewed my Party membership.

I’m just not convinced that Romney will stand for liberty. We’ll see what happens in Tampa. At this point I’m going to vote my conscience for Gary Johnson. RLC-backed candidates who win office in Congress will have much more success supporting liberty under his administration than Mitt’s.

The premise of your article is a joke. To think that Mitt Romney will be any better than Obama is ludicrous to the Liberty Movement. We clearly understand that Republicrats are all the same. Any one that is with the lesser of 2 evils crowd is not serious about liberty. The fact is that Republicans and Democrats are one party. This is not a 2 party system, it is a 1 party system. They offer a “second party” to give you the illusion of choice. Both members of the single party system support fiat currency, endless deficit spending, interventionalistic foreign policy, and endless wars. Thats why you kick democrats out, bring in Republicans and nothing changes. GWB ran on small government as a fiscal conservative. When he got into office he drastically increased the size of government and spent us into oblivion. Go sell your lies somewhere else. Gary Johnson is my candidate! He’s not perfect, but he’s better than either one of those big government idiots running as Republicrats. I love Ron Paul but he is not a candidate.

I just threw up a little bit. Okay, maybe a lot. Romney wasn’t the worse candidate they could have nominated because they still had Santorum, but he was and is terrible.
I get that you are the “Republican Liberty Caucus”, but by supporting Romney you just forfeited the “Liberty” part of your name so you are now the “Republican Caucus” good luck with that. I’d much rather of had you guys be the “Liberty Caucus” or barring that don’t ever mention Mitt favorably at all and pass on the presidential elections until you have a liberty candidate again.
Until then I’m supporting, donating, and doing anything else I can to get Gary Johnson on the debate stage.
Even you can unstick yourselves from the herd mentality you can go donate $2500 to Johnson today for his “Get Me a Podium” money bomb that’s happening this weekend.

You. have. got. to. be. kidding. me.
There is *no* libertarian case to be made for Romney. He has flipflopped from Establishment Bloomberg Liberal all the way to being a sudden social conservative. At no time did he stop and admire the pretty libertarian flowers along the way.
He is against even decriminalizing medical marijuana. He strongly favors keeping our current tax code, and only tinkering around the edges. Do you think he’s ever given a moment’s thought to repealing the Patriot Act? Hell no.
This is a man who is unlibertarian in his heart. When a fellow student with long HAIR walked by him in high school, he led a team to tackle him and cut his hair. Is that not controlling enough for you?
On July 12th, 2012 at 9:20 pm
Romney is far better on liberty issues than Obama? Really? Let’s see…supports Patriot Act, has already said he will not support Medical Marijuana, let alone real “drug war” reform…Romney is NOT a liberty candidate! He is a big spending DemRepublicrat who is the nominee because he was able to out-spend Rick “Family Values Enforced By The State” Santorum. No thank you! Romney talks about a balanced budget but won’t touch Medicare reform & wants to increase defense spending. He is NOT for limited government. He is for HIM RUNNING government – that’s all.
On July 12th, 2012 at 9:44 pm
Ridiculous. You people can make a libertarian excuse for anyone–as long as he’s Republican.
On July 13th, 2012 at 4:00 am
So because Gary Johnson doesn’t have an (R) after his name I’m supposed to roll over and vote for Mitt? Sorry, but a vote for the lesser of two evils is still evil. A vote based on principle is never wasted.
And how is Romney supposed to be “pro-liberty” when he supports the Patriot Act, NDAA and the suspension of Due Process. We have yet to hear what he says about CISPA, but since the House Republicans voted it in along party lines, he probably approves that too. How is the government and military monitoring my web traffic and email pro-liberty?
Sorry, but Gary Johnson is THE FIRST presidential (heck any political candidate) who does not want to make my skin crawl, nor am I having to put aside 50% of my views aside to vote for him. I have always been a socially tolerant Republican. I have always advocated for fiscal restraint. And now a candidate comes along which embodies both? And you expect me to vote for Romney? HECK NO.
Besides, Romney has a long history of talking out of both sides of his mouth. He’s for restrictive gun laws, he’s against them. He’s for abortion, he’s against them. He’s for gay marriage, he’s against it. He’s for stem-cell research, he’s against it. He’s for the healthcare mandate, he’s not for it. Is he schizophrenic? Does he need to be medicated? At least with Johnson, I know where he stands on the position.
Four words: Vote Gary Johnson 2012
On July 13th, 2012 at 8:27 pm
“Romney will approve the Keystone Pipeline.”
That means he will approve a corporation stealing land from private owners. Yes, that is exactly what a conservative would do. A conservative believes in wealth-redistribution schemes, too. He redistributes wealth to the rich.
I am voting for Johnson, and this idiot just gives me more reason to do so.

Never. I do not consent. How many hammers do you need to clue you in that Willard ‘Mittens’ Romney (Property of Goldman Sachs) is not only as bad as Obama (Property of Goldman Sachs), but in fact will prove himself WORSE than Obama if people consent to his ascent to power, having bought himself time by suckering people that he’s ‘pro liberty’ in any way, shape or form.
On July 16th, 2012 at 6:21 pm
Ridiculous article. Way off. How did this get here on the RLC page? Admins?
On July 18th, 2012 at 10:42 pm
Wow! And you call yourselves a “Liberty Caucus”?
