News from Republican Liberty Caucus State Chapters
A brief overview of what’s taking place in our state chapters:
California: The state chapter has endorsed Proposition 19, which would legalize marijuana for personal use while leaving taxing of sales of marijuana up to local jurisdictions and the state legislature. Despite giving its support to the proposal, California RLC Board members highlighted their opposition to the idea of taxing marijuana, proclaiming that “It is important that voters and politicians alike remember that even after Prop. 19 passes, Article 13C of the California constitution grants voters the opportunity to block each and every new tax proposed by local governments.” Read the California RLC’s press release here.
Colorado: Although not a chartered affiliate of the RLC, new Colorado RLC Coordinator Bonnie Cannon helped the RLC National Committee select candidates and ballot initiatives to endorse in the state. A full listing can be found here.
Florida: At their July 25 meeting, the executive committee of the RLC of Florida made two official recommendations regarding Florida referenda that reiterate the group’s commitment to free markets, individual liberty and private property. The RLC officially recommended voters at large vote YES on Amendment 9 and NO on Amendment 4 in November. Amendment 9 is the Healthcare Freedom Act that will force health freedom to become a provision of the Florida Constitution. Unfortunately, a judge ruled that Amendment 9 will not be on the ballot this fall. Amendment 4, the so-called “Hometown Democracy Act,” would require public referenda on a wide range of land use decisions.
New Hampshire: The state chapter recently endorsed 61 candidates for office, most of them running for legislature. The New Hampshire lower house is the largest in the country, with 400 members. Democrats currently control both chambers of the legislature and governorship, so the RLC is hoping to propel its
slate of liberty-focused candidates through their primaries and to victory in November. Past New Hampshire RLC Chairman Jim Forsythe is a candidate of note because of his involvement in our organization and because he is running for one of the 24 State Senate seats in New Hampshire. Please support Jim and the other candidates!
Tennessee: The RLC chapter is working diligently to promote Van Irion, a Congressional candidate in District 3. Learn more about Mr. Irion at http://www.van4congress.org/.
Utah: Chairman Julian Babbitt reports that the next Utah RLC meeting will occur at 10am on Saturday morning, August 7th at the Murray Library. Utah RLC members and other interested parties will discuss campaign efforts, debate immigration, and the statewide Liberty Index which will grade state legislation.
Virginia: The state RLC has created a new Facebook fan page.
Wisconsin: The state chapter has been vocal in its opposition to pre-primary endorsements of both the U.S. Senate candidate and the Governor candidate by the Republican Party of Wisconsin. Both RLC-endorsed candidates for these offices were not selected by the Republican Party of Wisconsin. Voters will have the final say on September 14, but the Republican Party in the state is working to defeat two excellent liberty-minded candidates. We encourage you to call the state party and ask them why their process is rigged at (608) 257-4765.
Wyoming: Although the state chapter is not chartered, Coordinator Michael W. Dean has been actively networking with both Libertarians and Republicans in the state. The RLC National Board has endorsed two candidates for Governor, Ron Micheli and Rita Meyer. The primary is August 17.

Above: Past National RLC Vice-Chair Philip Blumel gave a presentation and answered questions about libertarian Republicans at the Cape Coral GOP (Florida) in May.
All Politics is Local: Join Your State’s Precinct Project
Several states now have organized precinct projects to help elect freedom fighters to precinct positions from the ground up.
Here are links to state precinct projects.
The precinct project program is a natural alliance of the RLC because our state chapters are working to achieve this same goal.
