Alabama does not have precinct committeemen. Instead, it has county executive committees, numbering a minimum of 25 members or one member per 1000 residents. Typically, members of this committee are elected in a Republican primary election, though up to 20% of the membership of a county committee may be selected by the county chairman. Between elections, vacancies are filled by a vote of the committee. Seats in the committee can be split between district or county-wide. You can learn more at the Alabama GOP website.
Precinct Leaders are elected at District conventions, or in pre-convention rallies, every two years (though vacancies can be filled between elections). The District Committees meet at least twice a year. Between meetings, precinct leaders are expected to canvas their precincts, register new voters, aid campaigns, and are in charge of all other Republican Party activities within their precinct. The Alaska GOP rules are online.
Arizona has over 2,239 precincts, with 1,142 in Maricopa County alone. Two thirds of the 6,000 Republican Party Precinct Committeeman slots in Maricopa County are unfilled. To begin the process, you must first contact the County Chair of the county party in which you live. Additionally, you may consider calling and e-mailing the elected Party leaders geographically close to you and tell them you want to volunteer to become an interim (appointed) precinct committeeman as soon as possible and that you eventually want to become an elected precinct committeeman when the primary season rolls around. Ask your contacts when the elections occur for Precinct Committeeman. Additionally, you can request placement as a precinct committeeman until the next election, where you can run for the position in the Republican primary. You need to download and fill out an application form, and either take it to a meeting, fax it, or scan and email it to the local party officials.
No oath or pledge is required in Arkansas. County committee members are elected in the Republican primary elections in even-numbered years and consist of one member from each precinct plus an additional member from each precinct for every 100 votes or major fraction thereof cast for Republican nominee for governor in the preceding county; or one member from each precinct for each 50 votes or major fraction thereof for the Republican governor nominee. Vacancies may be filled between elections, nominated at a meeting in which they must be present. County committee members may be required to pay a filing fee, based on their county. The Arkansas GOP has its rules posted online.
Committeemen are elected in regular public primary elections, although you can seek alternate appointments or appointments to empty seats from your county chair. Seven people are elected to the party central committee for each assembly district or county supervisor district, and also sit on the county central committee.
Each precinct has two committee people who serve for two years and are elected at the precinct caucus. These two committee people are expected to form a precinct structure for organizing their precinct. The Boulder GOP has additional details online.
Town committee members are elected on the 2nd Tuesday of March in each even-numbered year, at a vote either of a town-wide caucus or district caucuses. Vacancies are filled by a vote of the committee, either at the district or town level. More information is available online.

In Illinois, you must obtain a precinct packet (Nominating Petition Form, Statement of Candidacy and Loyalty Oath) from either the Illinois State Board of Election’s Springfield or Chicago office. Petition Packets are available approximately one month prior to the first day to circulate Petitions. The Petition Packet will also be available on the Illinois State Board of Election’s website. Nominating Petitions must contain the valid signatures of a minimum of 10 primary electors of the Republican Party. There is a nominating period (when you can collect signatures) as well as a filing period (when you must submit your signatures) each year there are precinct elections.
To qualify to run for Precinct Committeeman in Indiana, you must be a voter in the precinct, a member of the Republican Party, and cast a Republican Party ballot at your most recent primary vote. If you did not vote in a primary, you are not automatically disqualified. The term of an elected precinct committeeman is four years in Indiana, beginning when the appropriate county election board declares that you have been elected. The term of an appointed precinct committeeman begins when the individual is appointed to fill a vacant precinct committeeman office.
The person elected precinct committeeman shall appoint some person who is a qualified elector of the precinct and a member in good standing of the Republican Party, as precinct vice-committeeman, and shall certify the appointment in writing to the County Chairman, not later than 12noon on the first Tuesday following the May Primary Election of each year in which precinct committeemen are elected. The vice-committeeman serves at the pleasure of the elected precinct committeeman. If an elected precinct committeeman resigns or is removed from office, the term of the vice-committeeman expires as well.

Precinct Committeemen are elected every two years in the primary election. To get your name on the ballot, you must file a Declaration of Intent to become a candidate with the County Clerk’s Office. After you file, your name will be placed on the ballot in the precinct of your residence with the Republican Party label. Any Republican in your precinct can vote during the August primary for you to become the next Committeeman from your district. You may also get appointed to the position by contacting the Republican County Chairman in your county and asking to fill the vacancy. The county chair must write a letter to the county clerk for this to occur.
Before the elections for Precinct Committeeman, you will be required to collect 10 signatures from registered Republican or Independent voters from your precinct on the nomination form requesting that your name be placed on the primary ballot. Most precinct committeemen run unopposed. Before gathering your signatures, the party should give you a print out showing where the voters in your precinct live, including how often they voted in the last four elections. You can go to the homes of the voters who always vote and simply ask them to sign your nomination papers.
