I have long been in favor of a reduction and eventual cut off of aid to Israel because I believe that countries and their cultures can be distorted by becoming dependent on foreign aid. So it's time to get off the Uncle Sam heroin. The Likud bloc (in the form of Netanyahu) agrees so this is not something "out there" but rather something that would strengthen Israel. A sudden cutoff would be disruptive but the longer we wait to taper off, the more likely that we're going to do the cold turkey route by default.

Good piece. Problem is a good amount of those who oppose foreign aid, only point out Israel as a culprit, and ignore even bigger welfare recipients like Egypt and Turkey.

Thus, the suspicion among American Jews, even conservatives and libertarians, that something else must be at work.

I have my doubt myself sometimes. I wonder why some in the Ron Paul camp are always so quick to condemn Israel, yet are silent on aid to Islamic countries? It's almost like you have to press them on that, and you may finally get a response, "well, yeah, we support cutting off aid to Egypt and Turkey too."

Okay, so why don't you all lead off with that??
