Founded in 1991, the Republican Liberty Caucus works to advance the principles of limited government, free markets and individual liberty within the Republican Party.

In one of the most exciting victories for the RLC this November, former Chair of the New Hampshire RLC and its PAC, Jim Forsythe, won election to the 24-member State Senate. Before winning election, Forsythe also chaired the Strafford town GOP and the Strafford Taxpayers Coalition. His campaign focused on making the state more business friendly, cutting spending, and ending the structural deficit.

Another former RLC Chairman in New Hampshire, Dan McGuire, was elected to the 400-member State House. He will join his wife Carol there.

In addition to these important victories, the following 81 New Hampshire RLC candidates were elected on Tuesday. Those with a star (*) are Officers or Board members, past or current, in the Republican Liberty Caucus.

You all, pinch yourselves. This is for real. This is not a dream.

Oh my gosh. I just realized Dan and Carol are a husband/wife team of libertarian Republican legislators.

This keeps getting better and better.

So, a member of the RLC is sponsoring the reregulation of marriage in New Hampshire because government doesn’t intrude into legal contracts enough. This is why I contend the RLC is a fraud. You are big government Republicans with a moralistic agenda.

James, there’s nothing about that in this article.  Could you direct me to your source?  If you read our statement of principles we clearly would not support such a position, but sometimes endorsees fail to follow our principles for a variety of reasons.  When that happens we do what we can to disavow their actions and hold them accountable.

Never mind. I did the research myself.  As I should have guessed, you substantially misrepresented the situation.  The legislation proposed by an RLC endorsee is not as you described.  It does not interfere with legal contracts in any way.  It preserves the contractual legality of gay marriages as civil unions and does nothing but change the terminology from referring to them as a “marriage” to referring to them as “civil unions” – no changes would be made to the rights of gay couples under the revised law.

In fact, the new law may arguably be even better than gay marriage from a purely libertarian perspecitve, as it allows even heterosexual couples of any combination of genders to form a contractual civil union.

What’s more it’s unlikely that the bill will come anywhere near passing and it’s opposed by many other RLC endorsees in the NH House.
