Dear Ken,

My county GOP committee has also had frequent turnover in leadership, voting in a new Chair this year after having management problems with the Chair who was first elected in January 2009, mostly over his personal attitude and insistence on pushing divisive, peripheral issues to the detriment of growing the party.

Perhaps Mr. Miller was "spending money, large sums, without the required approval of the executive committee" and "flatly refus(ing) to comply with the role of the party chairman", that is something dependent on direct observation and those of us far from Pima County certainly cannot verify that.

What I can verify over the internet in this forum is whether or not you agree with the point that Mr. Nalle is making. Though you wrote at length about other factors in Mr. Miller's removal from office, you don't address any of Mr. Nalle's points. Merely calling yourself "a limited government, freedom loving, individual liberty defender" is not a sufficient answer.

As you so eloquently put it, "Lets be clear he(re)", do you believe that we are ruled by laws in a republican form of government or are we ruled by some other form of government; perhaps it is majority rule in a democracy, rule by some in an oligarchy or something else?

If the Republican Party doesn't defend the inalienable rights of individuals (like Jose Guerena) according to the rule of law and the guarantees in the Bill of Rights, but instead considers some government agents to be above the law and never to be questioned, then it doesn't have any reason to exist and call itself Republican.

Sincerely,

Cliff Hutchison

The Republican Party, as a whole, seems to behave as the article reads. The county party where I live in Texas is certainly guilty of this! I am one that has tried to become involved in the clique but found that to be accepted one must sign on to do the dirty work that the precinct chairs do not want as a "right of passage" into the fray. I'm NOT going to put McCain or even Perry signs in ANYBODY's yard!

This "Party" is in sad need of new blood, and younger blood would be a BIG plus. I am almost one of the "blue hairs" which were spoken of but would be willing to help a Liberty minded younger person with his/her (so that I don't have to do it again!).

Let’s
be clear hear. Mr. Miller was voted out by 80% (yes 80% – does that send a
message about his performance) of the attending or proxied precinct committman,
elected under the Arizona Revised Statutes.

Mr.
Miller was not acting in the best interests of the Pima County GOP. He was
taking multiple and different public positions on behalf of the party –
positions are the province of elected representatives of the GOP and GOP
candidates, not the chair. Fund raising was down dramatically, and party
derision was up. He was spending money, large sums, without the required
approval of the executive committee, not only a bylaw issue, but potentially a
legal misappropriation of funds issue. Mr. Miller flatly refused to comply with
the role of the party chairman on multiple occasions, thus he was voted out.
Simply put, regardless of a very supportive, apparently ill-informed, but small
posse he was a disaster as a party chairman.

His
speech, Friday night July 15th, to the assembled elected PC’s prior to the vote to remove
was an attempt at verbal suicide. He expressed no intention of performing the
job as chair, following the bylaws, or raising money to get candidates elected
– just what he had been elected to do. Instead he talked to the assembled as if
they were not concerned about the nation, freedom, and individual liberty. He
evidently feels, along with his fervent small band of followers, that he owns
the franchise on these three important symbols of what this country should be.
He showed nothing but contempt for the assembled PC’s. This was not a big
government Republican conspiracy as Mr. Miller has been quoted, this was not a
RINO thing as his followers keep saying.

A very
large percentage attending were and are conservative, limited government,
freedom and individual loving Republicans – what he purports to be. His small
band of supporters have been great at providing disinformation to protect a
man who simply was a disaster at his post.
The misinformation disease appears to have been caught by Mr. Nalle, the author of this piece.

This is
why he was voted out. I know I was there. I am a limited government, freedom loving, individual liberty defender, and I am a Republican, an old one at that.

That is sad to hear. Step up Young Republicans and in a responsible, sensible way make your positions clear and your voices heard.

The old guard are the progressivist Roosevelt Republicans. They need to go back to their home, the Democratic Party. All those committed to preserving and restoring our Republic need to stand for the principles upon which it is founded. Or we are doomed.

Methinks it is part of the process, that the older generation strives to hang on as much as possible for as long as possible. They will also attempt to control "from the grave" by finding younger people who hold the same beliefs. I do think, however, those younger people are in short supply while the liberty side is more plentiful.

A part of this battle is about finances. The liberty Republicans must cultivate and bring new donors into the GOP. Because money talks with a loud voice! That said, the geezers will die off, eventually. Our missions is to ensure the GOP is not killed off by them first.
